About Trent Copeland

Trent Copeland, a wicketkeeper who initially didn’t focus on fast-bowling until he reached the age of 20, burst onto the first-class cricket scene in 2010, leaving an indelible mark. His Shield debut against Queensland was nothing short of spectacular, as he seized 10 wickets in the match, including a remarkable 8-92 in the first innings. This performance stands as the second-best haul by a player on their first-class debut for New South Wales. That season concluded with an impressive tally of 35 wickets from just five matches, and he continued his dominance with an additional 45 scalps the following summer, solidifying his status as the leading wicket-taker. Copeland’s remarkable achievements earned him the prestigious Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year Award and a Test debut during the 2011 Sri Lanka tour. As a tall right-armer, he contributed to the team’s success by taking six wickets in three Tests during the series, which included the prized wicket of Tillakaratne Dilshan with just his second ball. However, he faced a period of exclusion from the side. Following his significant role in New South Wales’ victory in the Sheffield Shield in 2013-14, Copeland experienced an 18-month hiatus from cricket due to stress fractures in his back. Nevertheless, he made a triumphant return to the Blues side in February 2016. In an extraordinary comeback, he claimed 26 wickets in just five matches at an average of 21.15, boasting his best figures of 7-58. His contributions extended beyond bowling, as he chipped in with valuable runs, accumulating 171 at an average of 28.50 while batting in the lower order. For his remarkable performance, he was honored as the Blues Sheffield Shield Player of the Year. Furthermore, Copeland’s excellence on the field persisted, as he was acknowledged as the Blues’ Sheffield Shield MVP for the 2018-19 season, an accolade well-deserved after taking 52 wickets at an impressive average of 18.21. Away from the cricket field, Copeland is an expert in Fantasy Sports, showcasing his passion for the game. He also closely follows the career of his wife, Kimberlee Green, an accomplished netballer representing New South Wales and Australia.
