Tim Murtagh, a skilled swing bowler, was originally born in London but became eligible to represent Ireland due to his family roots, with his grandfather hailing from Dublin. His decision to play for Ireland was influenced by a conversation with fellow cricketer Ed Joyce, who represented both Ireland and Middlesex, in 2011. After successfully obtaining Irish citizenship in January 2012, Murtagh made his debut in one-day international cricket for Ireland, taking on Australia in June 2013.
In the ten ODIs he has played for Ireland, Murtagh has showcased his talent by claiming nine wickets, including a notable performance where he took 3-33 against England in September 2013. Additionally, Murtagh has been a valuable asset to Middlesex’s bowling attack.
His impressive showings during the 2014 county season earned him a spot in Ireland’s World Cup squad. However, an unfortunate foot injury in January led to Murtagh withdrawing from the tournament. He was subsequently replaced by seamer Max Sorensen.
