In 2009, during a tour of India, Thisara Perera received his first break in the Sri Lanka limited-overs team, stepping in as an emergency replacement for Angelo Mathews. Perera, a talented all-rounder who delivers right-arm medium-fast bowling and wields a left-handed bat, quickly secured his place as a consistent performer in Sri Lanka’s one-day international squad. Among his notable achievements is a remarkable hat-trick against Pakistan in 2012, along with seven ODI half-centuries.
He marked his second appearance at the ICC Cricket World Cup during the 2015 tournament, having participated in four matches during the 2011 edition. While Perera remains a regular in Sri Lanka’s ODI lineup, he hasn’t achieved the same level of prominence in Test cricket. He played six Test matches between 2011 and 2012 but has not been part of the longer format of the game since then.
