Shamilia Connell, although she initially ventured into cricket during her primary school years, later shifted her focus to track and field until high school when a local coach identified her cricketing talent. Her T20I debut transpired against New Zealand in September 2014, and her ODI debut followed just two months later against Australia. Connell promptly established herself as the opening bowler for West Indies, consistently delivering speeds approaching 80 mph, earning her favorable comparisons to the legendary Joel Garner. Her presence was felt in West Indies’ line-up during the 2016 and 2018 editions of the T20 World Cup, and she has recently been selected for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.
