Up-and-coming off-spinner Sam Grimwade garnered attention while representing a Cricket Australia XI against India in November 2014. On the same day he was scheduled to take his Year 11 English and Politics exams, the then-16-year-old impressed by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane, a notable wicket. Grimwade further demonstrated his skills during an under-19s tour to Sri Lanka in September 2014, earning the title of player of the series. This accomplishment came only four months after he had undergone surgery on his bowling arm. In recognition of his potential, he secured a rookie contract with the Victorian Bushrangers for the 2016-17 season.
