Peter George is a tall, slender fast bowler known for his remarkable accuracy. His stature and precision have drawn comparisons to one of Australia’s cricket legends, Glenn McGrath. He made a notable debut against the Tasmania Tigers in 2008, where he impressed with a performance that included taking 4 wickets for 56 runs in the first innings. Notably, his fiery three-over spell saw him dismiss Tim Paine, Luke Butterworth, and Brett Geeves. In the second innings, he once again showcased his skill by removing both openers.
The 2009-10 season proved to be a significant turning point in George’s career. His consistent performances led to his selection in several Australian touring squads. On the domestic front, he was the key bowler for the Redbacks, finishing the Sheffield Shield season with 36 wickets at an average of 30. One of the season’s highlights was his extraordinary performance against the Tigers, where he achieved career-best figures of 8 wickets for 84 runs.
His impressive run of form earned him the opportunity to tour England, New Zealand, and India, providing invaluable experience. It wasn’t long before he earned the coveted Baggy Green cap. However, the 2010-11 series in India proved to be a challenging test for George, where he faced the daunting task of bowling to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who was in sublime form with a score of 214. Nevertheless, George remained steadfast and succeeded in dismissing Tendulkar. He also claimed the wicket of Zaheer Khan, concluding with commendable figures of 2 wickets for 48 runs in 21 overs, a notable feat given India’s formidable total of 495.
Regrettably, injuries have hampered George’s ability to replicate the form that earned him national recognition. His imposing 2.03-meter frame has struggled to withstand the demands of his bowling workload. Nonetheless, he aspires to build on his solid performances for Queensland in the previous season.
