In 2021, Nivethan Radhakrishnan had a remarkable experience when he joined the Delhi Capitals as a net bowler in the Indian Premier League. The Delhi Capitals had been closely monitoring this ambidextrous spin bowler for several years. Radhakrishnan, hailing from Chennai, started honing his skills in ambidextrous bowling at a very young age. Encouraged by his father, he began experimenting with left-arm spin when he was just five or six years old. Over time, he developed the unique ability to bowl effectively with both his right arm (off-spin) and left arm (orthodox).
Radhakrishnan’s journey involved relentless dedication, working through the NSW pathway and engaging in rigorous training sessions with his father, Radha, and his brother, Nikethan, at Airey Park in Homebush. Through his hard work, he has emerged as a promising allrounder, displaying the versatility to open the batting and deliver effective bowling with both arms.
During the 2021-22 season, Radhakrishnan received rookie contracts from both NSW and Tasmania. He made the decision to relocate to Hobart in June 2021. Radhakrishnan, who once represented Australia at the Under-16 level, holds the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers as his cricketing idol. While initially considered a batting allrounder by the Tigers, he remains eager to showcase his exceptional multi-skilled abilities, a rare trait at the elite level of the sport.
