Matthew Kuhnemann, a talented left-arm spinner hailing from the Gold Coast, was awarded a rookie contract by Queensland for the 2016-17 season. His early cricketing endeavors led him to represent Australia Under-19 and even embark on a tour to Sri Lanka in 2014. Kuhnemann donned the colors of the Cricket Australia XI during their participation in the domestic one-day competition. Yet, it was in 2019 that he truly began to make his mark. While playing for the Brisbane Heat, he showcased his abilities by securing two wickets during his BBL debut.
His impressive performances for the Heat continued over the subsequent seasons, eventually earning him a prized Sheffield Shield debut with Queensland in February 2021. In 2022, Kuhnemann received a call-up to the Australian ODI squad for their tour of Sri Lanka, where he made a substantial impact. Over the course of the tour, he claimed six wickets in four matches, significantly bolstering his credentials for future selections on subcontinental tours in both white-ball and red-ball cricket.
