Well before her remarkable journey to becoming an opening batswoman of global acclaim, Laura Wolvaardt’s cricketing prowess was evident. At the tender age of 11, she secured a spot in the Western Province U-19 girls’ team. In just two years, she remarkably advanced to their senior squad.
In early 2016, Wolvaardt made her One Day International (ODI) debut against England. A mere four months later, at the age of 17, she achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the youngest South African, regardless of gender, to record an ODI century. Her heroic innings of 105 against Ireland not only etched her name in history but also steered her team to a memorable victory.
Her journey continued, with Wolvaardt being part of South Africa’s squad for the 2018 Women’s World T20, and she was subsequently named in the squad for the 2020 edition. Her dedication and talent have made her a vital asset for her team on the international stage.
