Johnson Charles is a talented right-handed batsman known for his power hitting abilities. He has drawn comparisons to Chris Gayle for his aggressive stroke play. Charles has proven to be a valuable player for the West Indies in one-day and Twenty20 international cricket, though he has yet to make his Test debut.
Charles made his international debut in 2011 against England in a T20 match at The Oval. He top-scored for the West Indies with a fluent 36 runs but his dismissal triggered a batting collapse as the team lost its final eight wickets for just 28 runs. His ODI debut in 2012 against Australia was also a loss, with West Indies being beaten by 64 runs. The then 23-year-old Charles worked his way into the series, hitting a polished 45 in the third match.
While still looking to break into the Test side, Charles has demonstrated his potential as an explosive limited overs batsman for the West Indies.
