The wicketkeeper and batter marked his first-class debut for Northerns in February 2005. Notably, in the 2015-16 season, Kuhn excelled, leading the first-class run charts with an impressive tally of over 1,000 runs. This remarkable performance earned him recognition.
In the subsequent 2016-17 season, Kuhn’s talent was acknowledged as he was selected as part of South Africa’s A squad for their tour of the UK. During this tour, he made a significant impact, achieving a double-hundred against Hampshire and adding a century against the Lions. These outstanding performances finally secured his long-awaited spot in the Test squad to face England in July 2017.
His Test debut took place at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground. However, Kuhn’s performance in that Test was modest, as he could only manage a combined total of 10 runs.
