Eoin Morgan is a unique cricketer, notable for achieving one-day international centuries for two different countries. He was born in Dublin and initially represented Ireland in under-15, under-17, and under-19 matches. In August 2006, he made his senior ODI debut during the European Championships against Scotland. His debut performance, with a score of 99 runs, hinted at his potential, and he marked his first ODI century about six months later against Canada. Morgan also featured in Ireland’s squad for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. However, he later set his sights on playing Test cricket for England.
In June 2007, Morgan was named the twelfth man for England’s Test match against West Indies, and a year later, he had the opportunity to play for England Lions against South Africa. He made his ODI debut for England in 2009 against West Indies, and his Test debut came one year later against Bangladesh. Morgan demonstrated his batting prowess by scoring 130 in only his third Test appearance. He later secured another Test century against India in 2011. Although he hasn’t played Test cricket for England since early 2012, he has consistently represented the team in ODIs.
Morgan participated in his third ICC Cricket World Cup during the 2015 edition, marking his second appearance for England. Notably, in December 2014, Morgan was appointed as the captain of the ODI team, taking over from Alastair Cook. This leadership role has been an important part of his international cricket career.
