Dushmantha Chameera’s journey to the international stage was quite swift. At the time he was called up as a replacement for Dhammika Prasad in the 2015 World Cup squad, he had only played one ODI for Sri Lanka. The young fast bowler made his debut for the national team during the one-day series in New Zealand in January. Just a month prior, he had earned a spot in Sri Lanka’s Test squad, although he wasn’t given the opportunity to play during that series.
Chameera’s debut ODI match took place in Wellington, and he made an impact by taking 2 wickets while conceding 60 runs. In his relatively short Test career, spanning six matches, he has already picked up 22 wickets, including a memorable five-wicket haul.
