Asghar Stanikzai’s journey with the Afghan cricket team began at the under-17s level in 2004, and he swiftly transitioned to the senior team in the same year, marking his debut against Oman in the Asian Cricket Council Trophy. Five years down the line, in 2009, he was among the players representing Afghanistan in their first one-day international contest against Scotland. In his 35 ODIs, Stanikzai has notched up four half-centuries, with a notable match-winning 90* against Bangladesh in March 2014, which secured Afghanistan’s first-ever victory over a Test-playing nation. He also occasionally contributes with his medium-fast bowling, having claimed two wickets in ODIs.
