Alex Blackwell stands as the most seasoned player within the Australian cricket team, with her international debut dating back to 2003. Her career has been characterized by her commanding and precise stroke play, establishing her as a prominent figure in the world of cricket.
Blackwell has a remarkable track record of success. She steered Australia to victory in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in 2010, adding to her accomplishments as a member of the championship-winning team in Sri Lanka in 2012 and 2014. She boasts two ICC Women’s World Cup trophies to her name, contributing to the national team’s triumphs in 2005 and 2013.
At the domestic level, Blackwell has consistently excelled, particularly with the NSW Lend Lease Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League. She has also displayed exceptional leadership by captaining the side to numerous domestic titles. In the 2012-13 season, her team achieved a rare feat, becoming the first to secure both the T20 and 50-over competitions in the same season, a feat repeated in 2014-15.
A historic milestone was reached when Blackwell became the first Australian woman to reach 200 international matches for her country during the triumphant Ashes series in England in 2015. In February 2018, she announced her retirement from international cricket, while continuing to participate in the Women’s Big Bash League.
